A masonry contractor
built on 30+ years of Long Island stone.

APM O'Neill & Sons is a fully licensed masonry contractor (License # 58161-H) serving Suffolk County and the greater Long Island region. For more than three decades our crews have been laying retaining walls, front stoops, chimneys, stone veneer, and brick & block across Medford, Bellport, Patchogue, Holbrook, and Sayville — the kind of work that has to survive salt air, freeze-thaw winters, and the shifting sandy soils this island is famous for.

Every masonry project starts below the surface. Frost-depth footings, compacted stone base, drainage tile, and weep pipes go in before the first stone is set. It's why our retaining walls in Medford and bluestone stoops in Patchogue still read tight and level a decade later — while cheaper walls built the same year lean, spall, and heave.

We work in natural stone — fieldstone, bluestone, granite, limestone — and in manufactured stone veneer when the wall assembly or budget calls for it. Full brick and CMU block for structural work, chimneys, and foundations. Every job runs with our own career masons, our own equipment, and one project manager from estimate to warranty. No sub-crews cycling through your property.

Our repair work is just as large a share of the calendar. Chimney rebuilds above the roofline, crown seals, tuckpointing on older Bellport and Blue Point homes, stoop repair, and full masonry restoration on estates across the South Shore. If the existing work is sound, we say so; if it needs to come down, we tell you that too — and give you the honest price to do it right.

Call (631) 480-3238 for a free on-site estimate. We'll walk the project with you, measure, discuss stone and drainage, and put a written itemized proposal in your hands — no pressure, no bait pricing.

Frequently Asked

Answers before
you call.

01

How much does a retaining wall cost on Long Island?

Most residential retaining walls in Suffolk County run $60–$150 per face foot depending on height, stone selection, and drainage needs. Segmental block sits at the lower end; natural fieldstone and bluestone-capped walls sit higher. We give a written itemized estimate on-site.

02

Do I need a permit for masonry work in Suffolk County?

Retaining walls over 4 ft., structural chimneys, and any work tied to a foundation typically require a permit in Suffolk County towns (Brookhaven, Islip, Southampton, etc.). We handle permitting in-house under License # 58161-H.

03

How long does a stone veneer or stoop installation take?

A standard front stoop with stone veneer and bluestone treads runs 4–7 working days. Full-house stone veneer scales with wall square footage — most fronts are 2–3 weeks including scaffolding, drainage, and cure time.

04

Will masonry survive Long Island freeze-thaw winters?

Yes — when it's built correctly. That means footings below the 42" frost line, drainage tile behind every retaining wall, weep pipes, proper mortar mix for the exposure, and freeze-rated stone and brick. Cutting any of those corners is why walls bow, stoops crack, and chimneys spall.

05

Do you repair existing chimneys or only build new?

Both. We rebuild chimneys above the roofline, replace crowns and caps, tuckpoint historic brick, coordinate flue liner replacement, and address water intrusion. Repair is a large share of our masonry work in Bellport, Patchogue, and the older Sayville and Blue Point neighborhoods.

06

What's the difference between natural stone and manufactured veneer?

Natural stone (bluestone, fieldstone, granite) is quarried — heavier, more variation, and lasts indefinitely. Manufactured veneer is cast concrete colored to look like stone — lighter, faster to install, and 30–50% less expensive. Both are legitimate; we help you choose based on the house, exposure, and budget.

07

How deep do retaining wall footings need to be on Long Island?

Long Island's frost depth is 42 inches. Structural footings for retaining walls, columns, and stoops need to reach below that line to prevent frost heave. We excavate, compact, and pour to spec every time — it's the difference between a wall that holds for 40 years and one that leans in 3.

08

Are you licensed and insured?

Fully licensed in Suffolk County under License # 58161-H, with general liability and workers' compensation on every job. Certificates of insurance are provided directly to your homeowner's carrier or town on request.

09

Do you offer financing on masonry projects?

Yes — approved financing with terms from 60 to 120 months, subject to credit. Most retaining wall, stoop, and stone-veneer projects qualify. Pre-qualification takes about a minute and doesn't affect your credit score.

10

What towns do you service?

We service Suffolk County's South Shore and central corridor — Medford, Bellport, Patchogue, Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, Sayville, Blue Point, East Patchogue, Bayport, Farmingville, Selden, Center Moriches, and neighboring communities. Call (631) 480-3238 to confirm coverage for your address.
